When Harry Edgar Palacio’s single “Coral Relief” hit number one on Luxembourg’s music charts, it was just one highlight in a career that defies easy categorization. The Philadelphia-born artist, who performs as Oregon Kool-aid, has built an unusual portfolio spanning 19 studio albums, 14 published books, and gallery exhibitions from New York to Italy.
Palacio’s music career includes collaborations with Grammy winners and Grammy-nominated artists, most notably Ari Up, lead singer of The Slits, the punk band championed by Kurt Cobain. His work has attracted attention from major labels—both Atlantic and Interscope Records extended contract offers—and his indie alternative music has been featured in over 100 publications including Rolling Stone, MTV, and XXL. He’s performed at venues ranging from the Paramount Theater in New York City to the Dominican Republic.
Literary Recognition and Visual Art
Beyond music, Palacio has made substantial inroads in literary circles. His prose-poetry has appeared in over 75 magazines, journals, and anthologies, with recognition including a finalist spot for the Fjords Review Book Competition and semi-finalist positions for both the Quartz Literary Prize and Willow Run Book Award. He also won grand prix at Hudson Valley MOCA’s Writing Off the Walls competition.

His visual art has been showcased on magazine covers and in galleries across multiple continents. The School of Visual Arts, Graffik Gallery, and Paul Robeson Gallery have all featured his work, with exhibitions scheduled in the UK and Italy alongside his New York shows.
An Unconventional Path
Palacio’s background is as varied as his creative output. He holds a Master’s in Education from Manhattanville University, where he worked as assistant director of the social justice branch. He’s also earned certificates from The New School, Rolling Stone Magazine, Parsons School of Design, and Complex Magazine, among others. He was accepted to Harvard University and received three PhD offers.

Living in Mount Kisco, New York, Palacio has spent time in the Dominican Republic and Nepal, where he became an International Yoga Master certified by Universe Yoga Alliance. He’s logged 164,000 minutes of meditation practice and works as a yoga and Ayurveda instructor, studying under Sri Dharma Mittra.
As a BIPOC artist living with schizoaffective disorder, Palacio has also worked as an art teacher in the Dominican Republic and served as a college radio DJ and Rock Music Director at WARY 88.1. He claims to have read 5,511 books, placing him among the top 50 readers globally according to his tracking.
Looking ahead, Palacio has two books scheduled for publication next year and two new alternative rock albums in development. His existing catalog of indie music releases remains available across all major streaming platforms under both his given name and the Oregon Kool-aid moniker.
